WASHTech aimed to strengthen sector capacity to make effective investment in new and innovative WASH technologies, through research and development of a framework which assesses their applicability and potential sustainability risks. From 2011-2013 IRC led the consortium of national and international research partners.
WASHTech led to the development of:
Technology Applicability Framework (TAF): a tool that helps to evaluate the applicability, scalability and sustainability of a specific WASH technology in a specific context and to gauge the readiness for its introduction.
The TAF can be used to:
Guidance on the Technology Introduction Process (TIP): a tool that provides guidance on how to successfully introduce a new technology. The TIP outlines the possible actors involved and key tasks for each phase of the process. For each application, the generic tasks need to be adapted to country-specific conditions. The TIP also provides guidance on institutional set-up and funding for technology introduction process and its follow up.
The tools and other project outputs are freely available to sector players through the washtechnologies website, hosted by RWSN.
