The sanitation service delivery approach is a conceptual approach that focuses on sanitary practices by all during the entire life-cycle of the human excreta disposal. The services relate to the first promotion of Open Defecation Free (ODF) and toilets to the final end disposal or productive use of the processed excreta for energy or fertiliser.

The life cycle services approach has both software components, such as promotion of sanitation and hygiene, strengthening of supply services and monitoring sanitation progress, and hardware elements, such as improvements of technologies, designs and construction methods for excreta containment, removal, transport, treatment and end-disposal or productive use.
