Interested in learning more about the necessary tools for cost-effective and sustainable planning practices for adequate water, sanitation and hygiene services?

...then we encourage you to attend the following seminars at this year's AfricaSan3:

Financing Sanitation session- Making services last forever: financing sanitation and hygiene behaviour change in low income areas

Wednesday 10:30-13:30

Evidence shows that current financing mechanisms for sanitation in low income areas focus on one-off interventions and do not achieve sustainability. Organisations will present good practices for financing post-construction activities and lessons learned for providing services to low income areas in peri-urban regions and rapidly growing small towns.

Attendance is free and registration is not necessary.

Costing Sustainable Services: Introducing the life-cycle cost approach (Part 1)

Friday 09:00 – 12:30

Life-cycle costs are the costs of ensuring adequate water, sanitation and hygiene services to a specific population indefinitely. The life cycle cost approach is used by governments, investors, donors and users to plan for sustainable and appropriate levels of sanitation service. Based on experiences in Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Mozambique, we will introduce the approach and participants will explore how to apply it to their own context.

Attendance is free, but please register with Jeske Verhoeven: verhoeven@irc.nl

Costing Sustainable Services: Introducing the life-cycle cost approach (Part 2)

Friday 14:00-17:30

In the afternoon, participants of the morning seminar can continue to more in depth sessions on how to apply the life-cycle cost approach. Issues that will be addressed are: minimum requirements for data collected, what tools can be used, and how to analyse costs and service levels.

Attendance is free, but please register with Jeske Verhoeven: verhoeven@irc.nl
