The Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Mr Clement Bugase has called for the lessons from the Triple-S Project to be shared with non-pilots districts. Mr Bugase believes the approach used by the Triple-S Project can already kick-start a change in mind set towards sustainable rural services.

Mr Bugase was speaking at an annual reflection meeting with technical staff of CWSA organized by the Triple-S Project on Wednesday 11 April 2012. The meeting themed, ”the road travelled in piloting water service delivery approach in Ghana”, was to afford the staff of CWSA the opportunity to review the achievement of the Triple-S Project from inception in November 2009 to date.
The discussions were also targeted at identifying best practices so far for up-scaling in Ghana and positioning CWSA to lead the process for the up-scaling. The Triple-S Project is piloting the Service Delivery Approach in three selected districts i.e Akatsi District (Volta Region), Sunyani West District (Brong Ahafo Region) and the East Gonja District (Northern Region).
Mr Bugase is however advocating for the Project to start sharing its approach and processes as part of the up-scaling within the pilot regions and across other regions. This, he said, will go a long way to strengthen the sustainability of water services in the country. He said “we need to already start planning how we share the lessons in our next workplan across the regions where we’re are already piloting and in new regions”.
The successes identified so far are as follows: the setting up of internal structures within CWSA for innovation, including the Technical Committee bringing together key technical staff of CWSA to develop concepts and give technical meaning to all processes adopted by the Project; the development a framework for assessing sustainability and functionality of water services ;and the piloting methodology which has enabled the Triple-S Project to work effectively with the pilot Districts.
