Abstract | In response to the recognition of a need for groundwater quality monitoring in Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP carried out a regional groundwater survey in 1990 and 1991 to determine the present state of groundwater resources and to collect data for the development of guidelines for monitoring and control. An Expert Group was then convened to review the data and set up the monitoring programme. This report includes the proceedings of the Expert Group Meeting, as well as their recommendations and conclusions. The text is presented in three sections; the first is the Expert Group summary, followed by the technical background documents section, and concluded by case studies from 13 countries. The subjects of the technical documents include salt-water intrusion, pollutant dispersion and modelling, and groundwater sampling equipment and procedures among many others. Legislation from various countries is compared and discussed. Country-specific problems and solutions are given in the case studies. |
