Abstract | This report discusses a mechanism - global public-policy (GPP) networks - that has the potential to allow citizens to benefit from globalization while reducing the social and economic risks involved. GPP networks are tri-sectoral, creating bridges between the public sector, the business community and civil society. The networks studied include the World Commission on Dams (WCD), the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Urban Management Programme (UMP). The report looks at the changing external environment, what GPP networks do and how they are managed and finally it draws lessons and implications for the United Nations. |
