Abstract | This publication is designed as a source book for all who promote health and development at community level. Target audiences for the document include people involved in the creation of local educational materials, school teachers, and community workers and leaders. The first part is on healthy water and better sanitation. It covers problems communities have with water, ways of protecting water supplies, golden rules for safe water, improving the environment, water committees, ways to make drinking water safe, and latrines. The second part on special health problems deals with diarrhoea, guinea worm, schistosomiasis, mosquitoes and AIDS. There are a further two parts to the manual dealing with healthy food and healthy mothers, healthy children. The simple language and messages it uses is intended to make the manual easily adaptable for use by different local communities in developing countries. |
