Abstract

This paper describes some of the environmental issues faced by countries in Latin American and the Caribbean and the initiatives countries are taking to address them. It describes the World Bank's efforts to help countries deal with the issue of improving the environmental conditions of their people. The document also contains appendices listing World Bank projects in the region which have environmental components. It is claimed that one quarter of World Bank loans and credits to the region are for environmental projects.
