Abstract | Water distribution system modeling is a growing technical field that provides the foundation for many programs, policies, and activities of a water utility. This book provides a comprehensive overview of water distribution system modeling, analysis, and design and while it is chiefly a practical handbook aimed at water system designers, it also provides non-technical people with an overview of the complexities and issues involved. The author presents the material from various perspectives and includes discussions on related issues such as conservation. The book begins with an historical perspective of the use of network modeling in the water industry; an insight into basic hydraulic terminology and principles and traditional water system components; and a description of the network, operations, and consumption data required for modeling. Types of required data, model calibrations and the creation of network models are also included. The book further discusses distribution planning and design criteria, network modeling applications, and model selection criteria and characteristics. It provides insight into linking a modeling programme with other information systems, and focuses on managing a network modeling system including planning, staffing, training, coordinating and model maintenance. Appendices provide further details. |
