Abstract

The Gauteng Integrated Schools Sanitation Improvement Programme commissioned research to find out how students perceived the water, sanitation and hygiene situation in their schools. It showed that toilets were seen as a problem, dirty and unsafe places. Schools were discouraging actions to improve the situation. This comic story was written to capture students' interest and get them talking about things they could change in their schools. This booklet places the issue of toilets in the broader context of students taking action to make their school a better place.
