Abstract | This article examines participatory evaluations which teams of three to eight people carried out in five focus communities in Sindhupalchok and Kavrepalanchok in Nepal. The teams conducted the evaluations over a two-day period. They spent the first day mapping the village and conducted participatory rural appraisals (PRA) on the second. The following PRA tools were used: social maps, chapati diagram, wealth ranking matrix, comparative analysis matrix, resource location, and timelines. The teams also developed a set of indicators of "increased community capacity". They concluded that: local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) did not have the capacity to carry out PRAs; PRA tools should be used flexibly; more attention should be given to measuring community capacity. |
