Abstract

Enlarged edition of a document originally published in 1981 and republished with corrections in 1983. Presents the basic principles of hydrology as an introduction to the occurrence and movement of groundwater in practical situations. In 7 chapters the following subjects are dealt with: the hydrological cycle and the water balance; the properties of ground and water; determination of groundwater flow and examples of calculations and modelling; groundwater quality, including fresh/brackish relations; groundwater surveys, including field and laboratory investigations; the posibilities and constraints of groundwater development at regional and local scale; and groundwater in hardrock.
