Abstract

This report describes the program planning workshop which attempted to guide the Belizian national program for environmental health. The task of the workshop concerned the last stage of a three phase process aimed at focusing on institutional and community participation issues within the Improved Productivity through Better Health Project. The result of the workshop was the development of an Action Plan for the Ministries of Health and Natural Resources. The action plan describes a set of activities which need to be undertaken to improve the effective delivery and sustainability of water supply and sanitation, as well as vector control programs. The areas of coordination identified by the participants for the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Natural Resources included: community development, data collection and processing, health education, siting of wells and sanitation, water quality monitoring, and watershed management.
