Abstract

Granual filter media, most typically sand, are required to satisfy specifications relating to their physical properties. These include appearance and cleanliness, size grading, density, settling velocity, shape, acid solubility, hardness and resistance to attrition. Tests are described in which these properties are measured, and criteria for acceptability are proposed, together with some typical results for filter sands
