Abstract

Examples of dramatic increases of vector-borne diseases caused by large-scale water management projects (dams, irrigation canals) demonstrate the need to include these risks in project planning and cost-benefit analysis. A small-scale fish-culture project in Cameroon offers a possible alternative approach in dealing with a vector-borne disease problem created by the construction of irrigation works.
