Abstract | The first part of the video concentrates on the expanding of food production through irrigation and drainage. A project is shown in which Senegal, Mali and Mauritania cooperate to build two dams in the Senegal river in order to be able to regulate the flow. Problems mentioned include salinity, water logging and water-borne diseases, (malaria, schistosomiasis, and river blindness). It is said that clean water is not enough, health practises should also be taught to the people. The film has a passive concept of women and drinking water and does not mention the important role of women in agriculture and food production. |
